What is BBSC?

Bantry Bay Sailing Club is a locally run sailing club, offering sailing and boat facilities to people of Bantry and West Cork.

Who runs BBSC?

It is a Companies Limited By Guarantee (CLG) with a voluntary board and it is run by an elected committee which is composed of Commodore, Vice-Commodore, Honourable Treasurer, Honourable Secretary and Committee members. The organization is run entirely by volunteers apart from the paid sailing instructors.

How do I become a member?

Simply download the 2024_Request_NewMembership.doc in the grey panel, and email it in. If you have any questions, please use the Contact tab.

Does BBSC offer ISA sailing courses?

Yes, BBSC is an officially accredited sailing club of Irish Sailing. The IS courses are guided by the rules and regulations of IS to include annual safety boat, clubhouse, and procedures inspections by IS.

What is club sailing?

Club sailing is for members on a Sunday morning from 11:00 to 13:00. It is supervised sailing to include a rescue boat on the water. Members can use the club sailing dinghies for this or sail on their own boats.

Does BBSC have racing?

Yes, BBSC has at least one summer dinghy racing series in the season which is open to all members. It uses the Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) handicapping system, so all dinghies can race together. In addition, the club has Tuesday evening yacht racing, Cruisers Around The Cans (CATC), where members with yachts can race. The CATC racing is informal racing around the harbour and members often socialize in a pub after the race.

Does BBSC have a bar?

No, BBSC does not have a bar/pub facilities.

Does BBSC have changing rooms and showers?

Yes, BBSC has a ladies and men's changing rooms with showers and toilets.

How do I get access to my boat/dinghy in the boatyard?

Each member gets a gate key fob which allows 24x7 access to the toilets/changing facilities and boatyard.

Is there security at BBSC?

Yes, the boatyard and clubhouse is in a gated and fenced area. There is 24x7 CCTC which covers all the outside areas of the club premises.
