Bantry Bay Sailing Club

1168941 orig

Bantry Bay Sailing Club was founded in the late 19th century, the exact date is unknown. BBSC was active during the 1920's and 1930's but, like most sailing clubs, stopped activities during the second world war. After the war sailing activities continued and has been continuously active ever since.

Today we have a modern clubhouse and boatyard on the water front walking distance to Bantry town centre. BBSC has a slipway which can accommodate launching of dinghies and tenders.

BBSC Ethos

The main object of the Club shall be the promotion and encouragement of sailing and boating for club members. BBSC does the following:

  • Operate a local community club and within a fun and friendly environment for club members to enjoy sailing and boating.
  • To upskill members sailing, boating, and water safety knowledge.
  • To run instruction and training courses relating to sailing, lifesaving, water safety, navigation, meteorology, seamanship, and related subjects of interest to its members
  • To offer a friendly social environment and inclusion of all members.
  • To work with the local community and other local clubs in the spirit of goodwill.

BBSC is a run solely by volunteers and professional instructors for the summer Irish Sailing courses. Facilities include meeting hall, kitchen, toilets, showers, covered patio, and indoor space for storage of BBSC club boat equipment. The secure boatyard has water and electricity with 24x7 access for members and CCTV security systems.
