Basic sailing rules which should prevent most collisions: Click here for a video and another video
- A boat on port tack (the wind coming from the left, the boom on the starboard) gives way to one on starboard tack (wind from right, boom on port).
- A boat on Starboard tack with right of way may shout "Starboard" to a Port tack boat to help prevent a collision.
- A boat to windward (closest to where the wind is coming from) gives way to a boat to leeward (the boat further away from the wind).
- Within 3 boat lengths at a mark( the zone), the boat on the inside, nearest the mark, will usually need to be given room to go around the mark.
Sailors are asked to assist in the running costs of the safety boats by paying a small donation of 5 euro for one race, or 20 euro for the five-race series. Invoices can be created and paid online by sending an email to info@bantrybaysailingclub.ie . Thank you!
