The committee is busy preparing for return to sailing for club sailing and ISA sailing courses. We are following guidelines outlined by the ISA which can be see here . Sailing this summer will be different than the past and many measures to keep our members safe will carry on until covid-19 is no longer a risk. It is important to highlight that at any time the government can revert back and reinstate total lockdown if there is a resurgence of covid-19 in the country.

This is much welcomed and within government guidelines, will allow some people to get out on the water, at your own risk. The boatyard and slipway will be opened for the members who live within 5 km of BBSC. The clubhouse will remain closed so no toilet or changing room facilities will be available. It is VERY important that all members adhere to the guidelines laid out to provide a low risk environment and safety for other members using the boatyard and slipway. The Coast Guard and RNLI and Bantry Inshore Search & Rescue Association will be operating as normal.

In a nutshell, from Monday, May 18th while maintaining social distancing rules in the boatyard and on the slipway, you will have access to the boatyard to use your own boat with your family members whom you have been self-isolating with. The decision to be on the water is yours alone, and as always, you need to determine if the weather and sea conditions are within your own sailing ability. At this time, no rescue services will be offered by BBSC, so you need to ensure you can self-rescue and have propulsion methods to get back to shore (paddle or engine). The slipway can be a bit of a bottle neck, so ensure you maintain distancing etiquette as respect to others using the slipway.
